Never Judge A Book By Its Cover

Musto Art Studio is the creative space of Sandy Muston. Sandy has led an interesting and diverse life that is reflected in his artwork. His love and passion for art was obvious from an early age but didn’t start to take shape until he was much older. It was his other love rugby, that persuaded him to follow a different pathway. Sandy laughs about this now saying that at that time rugby just didn’t align with artistic pursuits. He enjoyed a very successful first grade rugby career as a front row prop for over 15 years.

Sandy was greatly influenced in his youth by his love of the sea and sailing in Sydney where he grew up in a well known sailing family. His earlier paintings show beautiful evocative seascapes characterised often by refined yachts and a oneness with the sea.

In 2000 Sandy moved to the snowy mountains and quickly developed a new painting interest in the changing alpine landscape and animals of the high country. He also cultivated his interest and skills in portraiture taking master classes and enjoying doing commissioned work.

Sandy’s most recent work has included a venture into what he calls fresh impressionism. They are beautiful pieces of work that show a new style of brushwork with lots of colour and light, and shifting patterns in the scene.

They say to ‘never judge a book by its cover’. Sandy looks like the front row rugby prop but he is a very sensitive, highly emotive and accomplished artist. Many of his paintings are on the walls of homes and businesses across Australia as well as other countries.  Interest in his work is continuing to grow.
